Our Story

When John and Jamie Larsson first learned about the concept of an Adult Day Center, they immediately recognized its potential to fill a critical gap in affordable, quality senior care in Utah. They envisioned a program that could truly support older adults while giving caregivers the respite they need.

In 2018, the Larssons transformed the historic Edgewood Reception Center—a beloved community landmark that hosted more than 5,000 weddings since 1965—into DayBreak Senior Services. By preserving much of the original architecture, DayBreak became more than a care facility; it’s a place rich with memory and connection, where some of our participants were even married.

Today, DayBreak stands as Northern Utah’s only licensed Adult Day Health Facility, offering a comforting, community-rooted space where caregivers find peace of mind and older adults find purpose, joy, and connection.

Our Mission

At DayBreak, our mission is to enhance the quality of life of our senior participants through daily enriched programs and activities. We aim to diminish caregiver burnout by giving caregivers a break for the day, allowing them time for self-care and revitalization.

Our Philosophy

We believe in meeting each person where they are—mentally, physically, and emotionally. Our dementia-informed approach emphasizes dignity, respect, and meaningful engagement, ensuring every participant feels valued and supported. Just as importantly, we are here for caregivers, providing the peace of mind and reliable respite they need to continue their role with strength and confidence.

What Makes Us Different

Not all day programs are the same. While some assisted living or memory care communities offer daytime activities, DayBreak is specifically licensed and regulated as an Adult Day Facility. This licensing ensures higher standards of safety, staff training, and dementia-specific programming. At DayBreak, being dementia-specific means:

  • Rigorous licensing: Northern Utah’s only licensed Adult Day Health Facility.
  • Specialized staff: Trained in dementia-informed communication, behaviors, and care.
  • Professional leadership: A full-time Recreational Therapist designs and leads evidence-based activities tailored to each participant’s strengths and needs.
  • Purpose-built programs: Created specifically for people living with dementia or cognitive decline.
  • Respite focus: Unlike memory care day programs, our sole mission is to provide caregivers with reliable respite and support.

Recognition & Innovation

In 2025, DayBreak was awarded $100,000 through the Alzheimer’s Association® Center for Dementia Respite Innovation (CDRI) grant—one of only 41 organizations nationwide, and the first and only in Utah, to receive this recognition.1

This funding supports:

  • A therapeutic sensory garden (opening June 2026) with walking paths, raised garden beds, and water features designed with dementia-informed principles.
  • Interior upgrades including new furnishings, technology, and therapeutic supplies to create a more engaging environment.
  • Expanded programming led by our full-time Recreational Therapist.

These enhancements ensure we continue to lead the way in dementia-informed respite care.
